Scriptwriting Competition Monologues for Our Future

Scripts Inspired by the Climate Crisis

Write. Perform. Plant a Tree. Make a Difference

This project is growing so fast that we need even more brilliant monologues to be turned into live performances and self-filmed by actors as part of a powerful video installation.

So we’re launching a monologue competition to welcome fresh creativity, unexpected perspectives, and help us build a bold, vibrant response to the climate emergency.

Please join us. It’s free to enter the competition and your words will make a difference.

We’re inviting writers to submit a short monologue (under 2½ minutes) on the theme of the climate crisis.

Win prizes, get your writing seen and for every script performed, filmed, and shared, we plant a tree.

The Scratch Theatre presents: In100Voices — where stories meet survival.

We have four categories, with one overall winner and at least 5 runners up:

Open to everyone a free creative writing competition for fictional monologues exploring the climate crisis with imagination, emotion, and urgency. Explore the categories and submit your script.

1. Hope for the Future

Monologues that explore hope or triumph in adversity despite the climate crisis.
Celebrates resilience, innovation, and the power of individuals or communities to create positive change. Can be uplifting, inspiring, or showcase a character’s vision of a better future despite challenges.

2. Moments of the Climate Crisis

Monologues that capture defining or pivotal moments within the climate emergency — times of crisis, change, and uncertainty in a shifting world. Your script might imagine extreme weather, natural disasters, or sudden environmental transformations. We welcome pieces that are urgent, dramatic, and emotionally charged — don’t be afraid to explore darker territory or dig deep into the human impact of these events.

3. Personal Moments

Monologues that explore how the climate crisis is affecting individual characters on a deeply personal level. These pieces focus on imagined experiences, inner reflections, and emotional responses — including mental health, self-discovery, and the personal impact of a changing world. They reveal how the crisis intersects with everyday lives, hopes, fears, and the journey of self. These pieces can be powerfully uplifting or uncomfortably reflective.

4. Open Call: Voices for the Planet

Monologues on any aspect of the climate crisis, from any perspective.
A space for bold, fictional, or unexpected takes. Can be poetic, surreal, activist, comedic, or anything in between. Ideal for entries that don’t fit the other themes but still speak powerfully to the urgency of our time.
