Filming Your Monologue

How to Film Your Monologue for In 100 Voices

We’re so excited to have you involved with In 100 Voices - a global creative project using performance and storytelling to raise awareness, challenge perceptions, and plant trees. Whether you're filming from your bedroom, a beach, or the middle of a busy street, this is your moment.

This guide is here to help you feel confident, inspired, and ready to make your monologue your own.

1. Make It Yours - Setting, Style, and Spirit

This is your performance. You can film it anywhere and in any way that feels right for the story.

  • In a forest? Brilliant.

  • In your kitchen at midnight? Beautiful.

  • Standing in front of a blank wall, letting the words do all the work? Perfect.

Use what’s around you-  light, background, props, costume. A scarf, a tree, a handwritten letter on the table… anything can add depth to the moment. Your piece can be raw and intimate, or bold and theatrical.

Whether you're wearing full costume or everyday clothes, whether you're sitting quietly or moving with passion this is about connecting with the words and the world. Let your instincts guide you.

You don’t need fancy equipment.
A mobile phone is enough. A quiet space, good light, and a bit of care is all it takes.

2. The Practical Bits - What to Film and How

When you sign up we will send you a  2 1/2 minute monologue script.

Please film it vertically (portrait) on your phone or camera.

Filming tips:

  • Lighting: Face towards natural light if possible. Avoid backlighting.

  • Sound: Choose somewhere quiet, or use natural sounds to set the mood.

  • Framing: Think of close-ups, wide shots, unusual angles or just keep it simple with a static camera angle. Play with it!

  • Props/Objects: Feel free to include meaningful items in the frame, they can help shape character or mood.

  • How to send your video: Send your video as an MP4 file, ideally in 1080p (Full HD). Try to keep the file under 1GB if possible.
You can send it via WeTransfer, Google Drive, or a Dropbox upload link - we’ll provide whichever is easiest. Just make sure we can download it!

You can film your monologue in one take, or get creative with editing, cut between shots, add subtle effects, or keep it stripped back and powerful. It’s completely up to you.

Please stay in character throughout the film with no introduction or anything added at the end - we will include your name and the name in of the writer when we share the video.

3. Why It Matters - This Is More Than a Video

This is more than just filming a script.
This is about using your voice, your performance, and your creativity to be part of something global something real.

We believe storytelling can do what facts often can’t: move people.
And when we move people, we make space for action.
Every video submitted becomes part of a growing archive of voices, a gallery of emotion, experience, and imagination that will be shared online and exhibited in Bristol.

Every monologue performed helps plant trees.
Every moment captured adds to the movement.
This is a creative act. A climate act. A spark.
